Real Girl – Jo

I’m a feminist. Deep down.
I want women from all horizons, of all different kinds of appearances and cultures to rise and shine.
It comes from education – of both women AND men -, from the gigantic work of deconstructing stereotypes of course, but also from being more gentle, more sympathetic to each other and to ourselves.
And this is the part where I can try and do something!
We are all conditioned by the TONS of images we are bombed with everyday by the fashion industry, the beauty industry, the entertainment, the food industry… hell yeah, even by the automobile industry!
We feel we’re never enough: never slim enough, never tall enough, never sexy enough, with teeth not white enough, thighs not thin enough, lips not plump enough, hair not curly/straight/blond/red/ombre enough.
Do I need to keep on listing all the supposed shortcomings we’re contrived to assimilate as ours, only on a physical level?
As a social photographer, I come across all kinds of women, and my job is to make them beautiful. To make them FEEL – during the time I’m shooting them, as well as when they receive their pictures – BEAUTIFUL. To give them tangible proofs of the beauty I see in them. Hoping they will be nicer to themselves, more compassionate, more whole-heartedly acceptant of their small imperfections.
Because BEAUTY AND CHARACTER COME FROM IMPERFECTIONS.
On a daily basis, I’ve been meeting these women mostly because they were getting married or because they were becoming mothers.
These are amazing adventures, of course, but what about all the single ladies (Hey there, Queen B : D!!), the ones with no kid, the ones with older kids…?
So I’m going to try something new here… INTRODUCING THE REAL GIRLS SESSIONS!
It’s a photoshoot exclusively dedicated to revealing the beauty and character of any kind of girl, of woman.
We’ll work together to find the artistic, photographic expressions of what you are inside, of what you want to show of yourself. We’ll put that into clothing, make-up and hairdos (implemented by pro during our photoshoot), venues, lightning styles, etc. Here we go, Pinterest sessions! <3
Then we’ll shoot for half a day, staging two different scenes/locations/atmospheres. I’ll digitally develop the pictures but I won’t Photoshop any of your pictures. I won’t try and change your physical appearance. You’ll look stunning, you’ll look like yourself, just the way you REALLY are.
And maybe next time you’ll feel like not [whatever] enough, you’ll look at your pictures again and well… feel like YOU OWN IT. That’s all I hope to achieve.
/// BE BOLD, HAVE FUN, LOVE YOURSELF ///

Today, please meet Jo! She’s the first to go through this little adventure with me  : )
She’s a child care provider and a pro handball player. So everyday, she’s more likely to wear yoga pants and no make up because her schedule is kind of very busy and physical, you know!
But from times to times, she do like to smarten up, so we pushed the idea a little further, with full glamorous, glittery styling.
Jo being not only a babe, but also a total badass when playing handball, we also rocked things up a little with the typical yet timeless leather jacket…
And DAMN SHE’S KILLING ALL OF THESE STYLES, right?!

SO NOW, WHO’S TURN IS IT GONNA BE?!  : D

(Pour les francophones, la belle Clélia de L’Apprentie Mariée, a écrit un super article sur ce concept de #REALGIRLS suite à notre looong déjeuner il y a quelques temps… C’est par ici ==> ” La beauté réside dans l’imperfection “)
